D.C. Circuit Review – Reviewed: Taking Stock
The D.C. Circuit issued no opinions this week. Instead of the usual analysis, here are a few almost-year-end statistics.
The D.C. Circuit has issued published opinions in 164 cases this year, down from 200 in 2024. As regular readers might guess, the busiest months were August (38) and July (26). The slowest months were February (4), November (4), and December (4 so far).
But the story of the year was the “orders of public interest” docket. The D.C. Circuit has issued 135 orders of public interest this year, including stays, administrative stays, and en banc orders related to stays. The busiest months were April (30) and May (23), due in part to some related cases. The slowest months were January (1) and October (2). For comparison, the D.C. Circuit issued only five orders of public interest in all of 2024.
